“Esio Trot” Writer Paul Mayhew-Archer Pens Parkinson’s Drama For BBC One

Dustin Hoffman and Judi Dench in "Esio Trot"

The co-writer of Dustin Hoffman and Judi Dench’s Roald Dahl adaptation Esio Trot, Pail Mayhew- Archer, has penned a Parkinson’s drama for BBC One.

But When We Dance is about two people (Tony and Emma) living with Parkinson’s who have a lot more than just the diagnosis in common; they also love to dance and they both have a good sense of humor. One of the film locations will be at the English National Ballet classes for those with Parkinson’s.

The drama will be 90-minutes and Jonny Campbell, the director of Doctor Who and Westworld, will direct it.

“People with Parkinson’s are also funny and loving and irrepressibly optimistic, and I know this because I‘m one of them. When I was first diagnosed, my neurologist, who is a lovely man, told me: ‘You seem to find it quite hard to smile’. Well, I thought, maybe that’s because you’ve just told me I have Parkinson’s,” Mayhew-Archer said.

A release date has no been set for But When We Dance, but we’ll keep you updated when more information about the drama is revealed.
