Angie Kim‘s bestseller Happiness Falls is getting its long-awaited TV adaptation, and one A-list star already boarded this project. Ethan Hawke will executive produce this project for Under the Influence, in addition to eyeing one of the key roles.

Happiness Falls is a deeply moving portrait of a family in crisis, which centers on members of a Korean-American family in Virginia. They are forced to question everything they know about their beloved father and husband after he goes missing, digging through their most personal secrets that just may be at the heart of his disappearance.

Ethan Hawke is eying one of the roles in this project and he’s executive producing it alongside his Under the Influence partners Ryan Hawke and Mickey Schiff. They’re honored to join forces with Scott Steindorff‘s Stone Village Television to bring Angie Kim’s incredible story to life.

Happiness Falls is a gripping character-driven mystery that explores how language and storytelling impacts us all, exposing the complexities of a family in turmoil where authenticity and love become a necessary and treasured currency,” reads the joint statement of the Under the Influence team.

The four-time Oscar nominee Hawke most recently appeared in Netflix’s Leave the World Behind, and he’s currently attached to Sterlin Harjo’s FX noir drama The Sensitive Kind.
