Everything You Need to Know: Doctor Who Season 11

Jenna Coleman and Matt Smith in Doctor Who

It is not long now until the 11th season of Doctor Who, where we will see Jodie Whittaker as the first female Doctor. Here is everything we know about the upcoming season so far.

When is out?

A release date has not yet been revealed but we can expect the new season to arrive this fall. The season will be the show’s shortest in 13 years at only 10 episodes long. We have already received a teaser trailer and it has been confirmed that production has wrapped up, so the new season is well on its way to our screens.

Who is the new companion?

You have probably heard by now that Whittaker will be joined by not one companion, but three. These will be: Mandip Gill as Yasmin Khan, Tosin Cole as Ryan Sinclair and Bradley Walsh as Graham.

Walsh said in relation to the news he had been cast on the show: “I remember watching William Hartnell as the first Doctor. Black and white made it very scary for a youngster like myself.

“I was petrified but even though I’d watch most of it from behind the sofa through my fingers, I became a fan. I then queued up for ages to get into the Carlton picture house in Watford to watch the great Peter Cushing appear as the Doctor in a full length feature film made in glorious colour. Am I thrilled to be part of this whole ground breaking new dawn for the Doctor?? Oh yes!”

Who is the new writer?

After seven years serving as regular writer on the show, Steven Moffatt has handed over the task of penning the series to Noughts and Crosses author, Malorie Blackman.

Joining her team will be a new set of writers including: Ed Hime, Vinay Patel, Pete McTighe and Joy Wilkinson.

Blackman commented on her addition to the show: “I’ve always loved Doctor Who. Getting the chance to write for this series has definitely been a dream come true.”

Where’s the Trailer?

An official trailer has not yet been released but a couple of teasers have been circulating. You can watch them below:
