Ewan McGregor made a successful shift to television in recent years, and he has another high-profile TV project on the horizon. The Emmy-winning actor will play the lead role in Showtime’s A Gentleman in Moscow, and the first trailer for this historical drama takes us to one of the most turbulent periods in Russia’s history.

Based on Amor Towles’ best-selling book of the same name, A Gentleman in Moscow centers on Alexander Rostov, who finds himself on the wrong side of history in the aftermath of the Russian Revolution.

“Spared immediate execution, he is banished by a Soviet tribunal to an attic room in a grand Moscow hotel and threatened with death if he ever sets foot outside again… As he builds a new life within the walls of the hotel, he discovers the true value of friendship, family, and love,” reads Showtime’s official logline.

In addition to McGregor in the lead role, this historical drama will also star Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Alexa Goodall, Johnny Harris, Fehinti Balogun, Leah Harvey, Paul Ready, John Heffernan, Lyès Salem, and Björn Hlynur Haraldsson.

A Gentleman in Moscow was adapted for Showtime by Ben Vanstone, and it will feature a total of eight episodes, set to premiere on March 29.
