Outlander established itself as one of the biggest hits on Starz since its premiere in 2014, and its future is still looking bright. Ahead of the premiere of the sixth season, Starz’s bosses decided to surprise fans of this hit show by renewing it for Season 7.

Outlander is based on Diana Gabaldon’s book series of the same name, and it centers on a World War II military nurse who travels back in time to 1743, where she sparks a romance with the dashing Highland warrior and tries to discover how she ended up there in the first place.

Ronald D. Moore, who developed the series for Starz, announced the renewal in an official statement: “We are so excited Starz has given us the opportunity to continue the epic Outlander journey. We can’t wait to get into the writer’s room and start breaking Echo in the Bone and look forward to giving the fans another season of this exhilarating story,” stated Moore.

Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan are expected to return to their respective roles as the production on Season 6 continues, but Starz is yet to share its official release date.
