Fear the Walking Dead was originally conceived as a spin-off of The Walking Dead, but it’s slowly catching up with the original series. The post-apocalyptic drama has been renewed for its eighth season by AMC, with Kim Dickens set to return as Madison Clark.

The renewal of the show was confirmed during Sunday night’s episode of Talking Dead and the chief content officer of The Walking Dead Universe, Scott M. Gimple, confirmed that Dickens is set to make a comeback.

“If there were a Mt. Deadmore, Kim Dickens’ face would be on it. Madison Clark is a foundational character to TWDU—heroic, complex, an everyperson who becomes a warrior and then a force of benevolence,” said Gimple in a statement.

Dickens played the role of intelligent and commanding guidance counselor Madison Clark in the first four seasons of Fear the Walking Dead before stepping down in 2018. She went on to appear on the TV series Briarpatch alongside Rosario Dawson and starred in Deadwood: The Movie, The Highwaymen, and Land.

Dickens will return to Fear the Walking Dead in the second half of Season 7, set to premiere next spring, before being credited as series regular in Season 8.
