The backdrop pilot for Sheriff Country recently aired as a part of the mothership series Fire Country, and CBS bosses seem to be pretty happy with its performance. Morena Baccarin-led spin-off has officially been picked up to series, and it will air on CBS during the 2025-2026 TV season.

The April 12 episode “Alert the Sheriff” served as a backdrop pilot for Sheriff Country, and it introduced us to its heroine Mickey Fox, played by Morena Baccarin. She’s a straight-shooting sheriff who investigates criminal activity in her small town of Edgewater and has a connection to the Fire Country heroes through Cal Fire’s division chief Sharon Leone (Diane Farr), who happens to be her stepsister.

CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach described this pick-up as a part of their long-term development strategy and explained they’ve decided to leave it for the 2025-2026 season to give themselves enough time to produce and market it properly.

Sheriff Country will join the schedule next year as our series pick-up. This will give us plenty of time to cast it, to figure out how we want to produce it… It’s a huge opportunity for us and it really speaks to the kind of development we want to be doing right now,” said Reisenbach in a statement.
