First Look: Imelda Staunton Starts Her Reign as the Queen in “The Crown”

After Claire Foy and Olivia Colman did amazing jobs portraying Queen Elizabeth II on The Crown, Imelda Staunton is ready to take on the iconic role. The British acting legend stepped into the shoes of the famous Royal in the first look at the new season of the Netflix drama.

After a lot of casting rumors flying around, Staunton’s casting has been officially announced. She’s been a fan of the show from the very start and expressed pride to be joining its cast and taking on the mantle from her predecessors.

“As an actor it was a joy to see how both Claire Foy and Olivia Colman brought something special and unique to Peter Morgan’s scripts. I am genuinely honored to be joining such an exceptional creative team and to be taking The Crown to its conclusion,” said the Oscar-nominated actress.

The first look image shows Staunton channeling her inner Queen wearing her signature hairdo, a yellow blouse, and a string of pearls. The Crown is expected to return to Netflix in 2022, with Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana, and Dominic West as Prince Charles.
