If you’re in the mood for a series that will transport you back to Ancient Rome, Those About to Die is just the thing you’re looking for. The first trailer for this historical drama is here, and it explores the corrupt world of gladiatorial competitions in the Roman Empire.

Peacock’s official synopsis describes Those About to Die as “an epic drama set in the corrupt world of the spectacle-driven gladiatorial competition, exploring a side of ancient Rome never before told — the dirty business of entertaining the masses, giving the mob what they want most…blood and sport.”

This series will follow the adventures of a huge ensemble of characters from all corners of the Roman Empire, starting with Emperor Vespasian, played by the two-time Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins.

He’ll be joined by Iwan Rheon, Sara Martins, Tom Hughes, Jojo Macari, Moe Hashim, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Rupert Penry-Jones, Gabriella Pession, Dimitri Leonidas, Emilio Sakraya, David Wurawa, Pepe Barroso, and many more in supporting roles.

Those About to Die was created for Peacock by Robert Rodat, who drew inspiration from Daniel P. Mannix’s non-fiction book of the same name, and it was directed by Roland Emmerich and Marco Kreuzpaintner. The series will feature 10 episodes, set to premiere on Peacock on July 18.
