After several failed attempts to bring it to the big screen, The Sandman is finally getting the adaptation it deserves! The first teaser trailer for this highly-anticipated Netflix series is here, and it promises a faithful adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s iconic comic book series.

According to its official synopsis, The Sandman centers on the Master of Dreams, who “must journey across different worlds and timelines to mend the mistakes he’s made during his vast existence” after being unexpectedly captured and held prisoner for a century.

The trailer for The Sandman was unveiled at Comic-Con, and the author Neil Gaiman had nothing but words of praise for the upcoming adaptation. He described it as “Sandman made for people who love Sandman, by people who love Sandman”, and said he cannot wait for fans to see the show.

The original comic book series that this Netflix show is based on ran from 1989 and 1996, and all attempts to adapt it to big screen were fruitless. David S. Goyer previously developed a movie adaptation starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but plans eventually fell through.

The Sandman is finally coming to Netflix on August 5, and the first season will feature 10 episodes. Its ensemble cast includes Tom Sturridge, Gwendoline Christie, Charles Dance, Jenna Coleman, David Thewlis, Stephen Fry, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste.
