HBO is plotting many spin-offs set in the Game of Thrones universe, and one of them is just a year away! A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will soon kick off production and it’s eying a late 2025 premiere date on HBO.

This prequel series will center on two unlikely heroes exploring Westeros, courageous yet naïve knight Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg, and here’s what it has in store according to HBO’s official logline:

“Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

HBO is in the early stages of developing several Game of Thrones spin-offs, but A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is one of the very few that have officially been greenlit. It was ordered to series in April 2023, and it’s currently in pre-production. It will start shooting this spring, and HBO is planning to release it in late 2025.

George R.R. Martin co-wrote the series alongside Ira Parker, drawing inspiration from his own Dunk & Egg fantasy novellas. They’re also executive producing this project alongside House of the Dragon EPs Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis.
