Andre Braugher was attached to the Netflix series The Residence before his sudden passing, but the streamer found a worthy replacement. Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito will step in for Braugher in this comedic murder-mystery series, which added several more actors to its cast.

The Residence has been described as a screwball whodunnit that explores the complicated inner workings of the White House, and centers on the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion. Uzo Aduba will lead the series in the role of a wildly eccentric detective, who must solve a complicated murder mystery after a disastrous State Dinner.

Esposito will join her in this series, taking over from Braugher over two decades after he succeeded him on Homicide: Life on the Street. Breaking Bad actor said he couldn’t be prouder and more honored to step in for someone that he loved, respected, and cherished.

“To be afforded the opportunity to create in his honor with this incredible team extends the depth and breadth of his legacy through all of us who loved him so dearly,” he said in a statement.

In addition to Esposito, several more cast members just joined The Residence, including former senator Al Franken, Andrew Friedman (Better Call Saul), and Julian McMahon (FBI: Most Wanted).
