Gillian Anderson rose to prominence while playing Dana Scully on The X-Files, but would she ever come back to reprise this role? The Emmy-winning actress recently opened up about Ryan Coogler’s potential The X-Files reboot and revealed if she’ll be involved in this project.

Anderson recently popped up for an interview on The Today Show, as a part of the promo for her upcoming Netflix film Scoop. When asked about the possibility of returning as Dana Scully, she admitted she always answered this question by saying it’s not going to happen, but something changed when Coogler hopped on board.

She described him as “a brilliant director” and “a bit of a genius”, adding she couldn’t think of a better way for a reboot to happen than having him on board.

“Whether I am involved in it is a whole other thing. I’m not saying no. I think he’s really cool and I think if he did it, it would probably be done incredibly well. And maybe I’ll pop in for a little something something,” said Anderson.

Anderson found success through many other TV projects after The X-Files ended its run. Most recently, she starred in the Netflix teen drama S-x Education and won her second Emmy for playing Margaret Thatcher in the fourth season of The Crown.
