The third season of Will Trent is on the way, and another major TV star just agreed to hop on board. Jane the Virgin actress Gina Rodriguez will star opposite Ramón Rodriguez in the next season of ABC’s hit police procedural drama.
Based on Karin Slaughter’s book series of the same name, Will Trent centers on a special agent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, who manages to overcome many obstacles, including his upbringing in the Atlanta foster care system, to become one of the most successful agents in the bureau.
In addition to Rodriguez, the supporting cast of this series also includes Sonja Sohn as Amanda Wagner, Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell, and Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood.
Gina Rodriguez joins them as Marion Alba, described as “a charismatic, confident assistant district attorney who is new to Atlanta” who is surprised to learn that she must work to investigate a crime in the world of Atlanta gangs alongside Will after their first encounter falls flat.
Rodriguez is best known as the star of The CW series Jane the Virgin, which won her a Golden Globe Award. Her recent credits include the lead role in the ABC sitcom Not Dead Yet and Netflix films Spy Kids: Armageddon and Players.
