“Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” Series in Works at Amazon

Rooney Mara in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"

Amazon is currently working on a series centered around Lisbeth Salander, the character based on the books by Stieg Larsson.

The project, currently titled The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, won’t be a sequel or continuation of the story from the books or films. Instead, Salander will be in today’s world with a new story, a different setting, and new characters.

Salander is the main character in the Millennium book series The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest, which were written by Stieg Larsson. Unfortunately, Larsson passed away and David Lagercrantz finished writing the series with The Girl in the Spider’s Web, The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye, and The Girl Who Lived Twice.

Salander was played by Noomi Rapace as an adult and Tehilla Blad as a child in the Sweedish film trilogy. Rooney Mara played her in the 2011 American adaptation The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and Claire Foy played her in the 2018 adaptation The Girl in the Spider’s Web.

There has yet to be an actress or writer attracted to the series. Andy Harries (The Crown) founder and CEO of Left Bank Pictures and Rob Bullock (The Night Manager) will executive produce.
