Hulu is developing a limited series about Amanda Knox’s incredible journey, and they found a perfect person to lead it after Margaret Qualley dropped out. Grace Van Patten will portray Knox in this promising series, which chronicles her wrongful murder conviction.

The untitled series will see Knox trying to set herself free after being convicted for the murder of her roommate Meredith Kercher. It took her years to finally prove her innocence after her fellow exchange student Kercher was found dead in their apartment in Perugia, Italy.

KJ Steinberg created the eight-episode series for Hulu, and she’s executive producing it alongside Warren Littlefield, Lisa Harrison, Ann Johnson, and Graham Littlefield of The Littlefield Company, Monica Lewinsky via Alt Ending Productions, and Knox and Chris Robinson of Knox Robinson Productions.

Van Patten’s casting was announced shortly after Margaret Qualley decided to exit this project due to scheduling reasons. Her departure didn’t significantly impact the production plans, and this series is still expected to start filming in October.

Grace Van Patten’s casting makes total sense for Hulu since she’s already found success leading several of their projects in the past. She starred opposite Nicole Kidman in the first season of Nine Perfect Strangers and went on to lead the romance drama Tell Me Lies alongside Jackson White.
