It’s been a decade since the American version of The Office went off air, but could this hit sitcom be gearing up for a comeback? Its creator Greg Daniels recently decided to open a development room to explore new series ideas, set in The Office universe.

Daniels will gather with his trusted writers to explore ideas for a potential follow-up series, but it’s too early to tell in which direction this project will go. According to Deadline, it’s not envisioned as a reboot or a sequel, but a new series that would most likely be set in a new office with new characters, who inhabit the same world as the Dunder Mifflin gang.

One of the ideas that Daniels floated involves “a documentary crew doing a documentary about a different subject”, according to Deadline. It’s up to Daniels to explore this concept with his group of writers, but NBCU executives repeatedly expressed interest in revisiting The Office if Daniels came up with an interesting new take.

The Office premiered on NBC in 2005, as a remake of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s BBC series of the same name, and went on to run for nine seasons. Despite a slow start, the series gained prominence with later seasons, and remained as popular a decade later, thanks to syndication and streaming.
