HBO has released a new trailer for its adaptation of Lovecraft Country which will be released in August.
Based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Matt Ruff, the series will take a road trip through 1950s America during the Jim Crow era with Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors), his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollet), and Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) as they search for Freeman’s missing father (Michael Kenneth Willaims). During their journey, they’ll have to overcome racism as well as supernatural monsters.
“I love stories,” says lead character Atticus Freeman in the trailer. “Heroes go on adventures to other worlds to fight insurmountable odds. Stories are like a living thing,” he continues.
There was also a body being dragged along the dock by unseen forces and a woman being thrown around a room in the trailer.
Wunmi Mosaku, Aunjanue Ellis, Jamie Harris, and Abbey Lee round out the cast.
Lovecraft Country is created by Misha Green (Underground) and executive produced by Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams.
