Following the success of House of the Dragon, HBO has another Game of Thrones spin-off on the way—and its future is looking bright. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms kicked off production in Ireland, and HBO just gave us a first look at this promising series.
Based on George R. R. Martin’s novella The Hedge Knight, this series will be set a century before the events of Game of Thrones. It will see two unlikely heroes wander Westeros – Ser Duncan the Tall, a naïve but courageous knight, and his diminutive squire, Egg.
According to HBO’s logline, “great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends” in the age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory.
Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell lead the cast of this series as Dunk and Egg, and they’ve just been joined by several new cast members – Finn Bennett (True Detective: Night Country) as Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel (The Crown) as Baelor Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford (Tiny Beautiful Things) as Tanselle, Daniel Ings (The Gentlemen) as Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell (Fargo) as Maekar Targaryen.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was written by George R. R. Martin and Ira Parker, and it’s currently shooting in Belfast, Ireland.
