Ever since Amazon announced that they are creating a Lord of the Rings TV series, fans have been wondering how the show will connect with Peter Jackson’s trilogy. Although Jackson will not be involved in the upcoming series, it will take place in the same setting.
In fact, the TV series will be shot in New Zealand and will utilize similar landscapes to the movie. We’re talking about the majestic mountains and beautiful forests that helped make Jackson’s films so visually spectacular.
The show is currently in the pre-production stage and is due to start filming in Auckland this year.
Showrunners and executive producers JD Payne and Patrick McKay told The Hollywood Reporter: “As we searched for the location in which we could bring to life the primordial beauty of the Second Age of Middle-Earth, we knew we needed to find somewhere majestic, with pristine coasts, forests, and mountains, that also is a home to world-class sets, studios, and highly skilled and experienced craftspeople and other staff.
“And we’re happy that we are now able to officially confirm New Zealand as our home for our series based on stories from J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.”
Lord of the Rings will be released on Amazon Prime and the released date is TBA.
