Just before we all go under the sea, here’s what you need to know about ABC’s The Little Mermaid Live!
The network is celebrating the Disney animated classic’s 30th anniversary in the best way possible with new musical interpretation performed live.
Interpretation, you ask? According to Entertainment Weekly, The Little Mermaid Live! isn’t going to be a shot-for-shot retelling of the film. Director and executive producer Hamish Hamilton told the outlet that the production “is very, very different to any of the musicals that have been done before because essentially it’s 50 percent the original feature and 50 percent live musical performance.”
The entire production team, cast, and crew are fully devoted to making the production the best it can be, but that includes some challenges as part of the story happens underwater and some of it above.
“Being underwater is kind of difficult! We’re trying to bring something to life underwater and that’s tough. But it’s been marvelous.”
The Little Mermaid Live! airs Tuesday, November 5 on ABC.
