Sounds like the start of something new.

One of Disney’s most beloved films is shifting scenes and coming to the smaller screen.

While it was hoped that Disney would be making a fourth version of High School Musical (Wildcats forever!), we will instead be revisiting East High School in the form of a television series.

The modern-day Romeo and Juliet adaptation told the love story between high school students Troy (Zac Efron) and Gabriella (Vanessa Hudgens) amidst many song and dance numbers in school uniform.

Production has now begun on the television series which will follow a group of students as they prepare for opening night of their school’s very first production of High School Musical.

No cast members will be appearing in the 10 episodes which will instead feature Joshua Bassett (Lethal Weapon), Olivia Rodrigo (Bizaardvark), Kate Reinders (Modern Family, Beautiful), Sofia Wylie (Andi Mack), Matt Cornett (Bella and the Bulldogs), Dara Renee (Freaky Friday), Julia Lester (Mom), Frankie Rodriguez (Modern Family), Larry Saperstein (Fan Girl), and Mark St. Cyr (Doomsday).

The show is expected to premiere sometime later this year.

Time to get our heads in the game.
