House of the Dragon will soon return for its long-awaited second season, and HBO teases the upcoming war with the new trailer. Two factions of House Targaryen plot their next move as they prepare to unleash the Dance of the Dragons, the war that will lead to their ultimate demise.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire and Blood, House of the Dragon chronicles the war of succession that led to the downfall of House Targaryen. They used to rule Westeros with an iron fist, striking fear into people’s hearts with the help of their dragons, but it all came crashing down when King Viserys I Targaryen passed away.

Season 2 will kick off in the aftermath of his death, and it will see two rivaling sides of the House Targaryen gathering allies and preparing for the war. Alicent Hightower helped her son Aegon usurp the Iron Throne, but his half-sister Rhaenyra Targaryen doesn’t take the news lying down, and she’ll do whatever it takes to become the rightful queen of the Seven Kingdoms.

Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, Eve Best, Steve Toussaint, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Tom Glynn-Carney, Sonoya Mizuno, and Rhys Ifans will return for Season 2, set to premiere on HBO on June 16.
