Pixar boss Pete Docter recently revealed they’re plotting an Inside Out spin-off, and the studio finally made things official. This project was announced at the D23 Expo in Anaheim this past week, and it will be titled Dream Productions.
Inside Out 2 recently found enormous success at the box office, and it’s the highest-grossing film of 2024 so far, with $1.594 billion earned worldwide. It set several records on its way to the top, becoming the fastest animated film in history to cross the $1 billion mark.
Pixar’s Pete Docter took a moment to thank Disney lovers at the D23 for helping Inside Out 2 become such a huge hit, and revealed they’ve prepared a special treat for its fans. He announced they’re working on a spin-off titled Dream Productions, and said it will be unique bold, and unlike anything they’ve done before.
This isn’t the first time Docter dropped hints about this project. He previously told Entertainment Weekly that the spin-off series will be set in Dream Productions, where Riley’s dreams were made in the first film. He described it as “the exploration of the power of dreams and how they affect us in our waking life” and revealed it would be released next spring.
