Jake Gyllenhaal is getting ready to lead the Apple TV+ series Presumed Innocent, and its release date is just around the corner. The first teaser trailer for this legal drama is here, and it sees Gyllenhaal fighting for freedom after getting caught up in a deadly affair.
Based on Scott Turow’s novel of the same name, this series will explore “obsession, s-x, politics, and the power and limits of love, as the accused fights to hold his family and marriage together,” according to the streamer’s official logline.
Gyllenhaal leads the cast as Rusty Sabich, a chief deputy prosecutor in Chicago’s Prosecuting Attorney’s office. He must fight for freedom after becoming a prime suspect in the murder of his colleague Carolyn, and the first teaser chronicles their volatile affair.
“Love isn’t what people tell you that it is. In my experience, it’s just something that grows. Until one day, you find yourself needing someone,” says Gyllenhaal in the teaser’s voiceover.
Ruth Negga, Bill Camp, Elizabeth Marvel, Peter Sarsgaard, O-T Fagbenle, Lily Rabe, and Renate Reinsve also star in this legal thriller series, which hails from creator David E. Kelley and executive producer J.J. Abrams.
Presumed Innocent will have its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 9, before heading to Apple TV+ on June 12.
