It’s been almost a decade since the last time James Spader voiced Ultron, and he’s finally ready to bring this character back. The Emmy-winning actor will make his MCU return in the upcoming Vision series led by Paul Bettany.
Spader voiced Ultron in Marvel’s 2015 blockbuster Avengers: Age of Ultron, and we haven’t heard from him since. He has a long history with Vision, and he even created the original synthetic body as the permanent home for his AI, before Tony Stark’s AI assistant J.A.R.V.I.S. was placed inside it instead. Vision seemingly destroyed him at the end of the film, but Spader’s return hints that some version of Ultron survived.
Paul Bettany will lead this project as Vision, and this series will reportedly see him trying to regain his memory and humanity. The door is also open for Elizabeth Olsen’s return as Wanda Maximoff, but her casting is yet to be confirmed.
James Spader is best known as the star of The Blacklist, which ended its run last year after ten seasons. He also received one Emmy Award for The Practice and two more for the sequel series Boston Legal for his portrayal of Alan Shore.
