Apple TV+ is plotting a television adaptation of Cape Fear, and this project is shaping up to be one star-studded affair. Oscar winner Javier Bardem landed a lead role in this high-profile series, which hails from producers Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese.
Cape Fear is based on John D. MacDonald’s novel The Executioners, which previously inspired two film adaptations – the 60s classic starring Gregory Peck and Scorsese’s own 1991 adaptation with Robert De Niro in the lead role.
According to its official logline, Apple TV’s new adaptation will center on happily married attorneys Amanda and Steve Bowden who must face the ghosts of their past when a notorious killer Max Cady gets out of prison. Bardem is currently the only actor attached to this project in the role of Max Cady.
Nick Antosca will serve as writer and showrunner of this series, and he’ll executive produce it alongside Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese. Bardem and Amblin Television’s Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will also join them as EPs.
Bardem is the Oscar-winning star of No Country For Old Man, whose recent credits include the Dune franchise, films The Little Mermaid and Being the Ricardos, and Netflix series Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story.
