Mindy Kaling’s Netflix series set in the world of professional basketball will be called Running Point, and its cast is getting larger by the day. Insecure’s Jay Ellis is the latest star to join Kate Hudson in this promising series in a major recurring role.

Running Point will star Hudson as Isla Gordon, who’s appointed president of the storied professional basketball franchise the Los Angeles Waves after her brothers are forced to resign in the face of a major scandal. She must prove she has what it takes to do this job and forge her own path in the unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports.

In addition to Hudson, this series will also star Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, Max Greenfield, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Roberto Sanchez, Uche Agada, and Dane DiLiegro in supporting roles.

Ellis joined them as Jay Brown, a former celebrated player-turned-head coach of the Waves, whose zen-like approach did wonders for the team and led them to multiple championships.

Kaling wrote Running Point for Netflix alongside fellow Mindy Project alums Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen, with the latter serving as its showrunner. They’ll also executive producing it alongside Hudson, Jeanie Buss, Linda Rambis, and Howard Klein.
