After receiving critical acclaim and numerous accolades for his role in The Bear, Jeremy Allen White is getting ready to lead another promising project. The two-time Emmy winner landed the lead role in Netflix’s adaptation of André Aciman’s novel Enigma Variations.
Aciman’s novel Call Me by Your Name has previously been adapted into a critically acclaimed drama of the same name, and Enigma Variations will soon get the same treatment. It centers on a young man named Paul, whose enduring love for a girl he’ll meet repeatedly over the years is punctuated by random encounters with men.
“Paul’s attachments are ungraspable, transient, and forever underwritten by raw desire. Ahead of every step Paul takes, his hopes, denials, fears, and regrets are always ready to lay their traps. Yet the dream of love lingers,” reads the novel’s official logline.
Enigma Variations hails from writer, executive producer, and showrunner Amanda Kate Shuman, with Oliver Hermanus coming on board as director and executive producer. Aciman and White will also serve as EPs, along with Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer on behalf of the production company Media Res.
Jeremy Allen White currently stars in the FX dramedy The Bear, which won him two Primetime Emmy Awards and three Golden Globes. He’s attached to appear in the Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere and the Star Wars film The Mandalorian & Grogu.
