Jim Parsons has compared The Big Bang Theory to a a dog that needs to be put to sleep.
Everyone knows by now that the popular US TV show The Big Bang Theory is coming to an end after season 12. Despite being offered $68.8 million to do seasons 13 and 14, Jim Parsons did not want to continue. The other cast members were all happy to continue the show, but there was no doubt among the team that there would be no show without Sheldon.
Speaking to The News Paper, Parsons revealed that saying goodbye was difficult, but it felt like it was time to let the show go after 12 years. He morbidly compared ending the show to putting a sick pet down:
“It was sentimental, it was harder to talk about it with everybody than I thought it would be. It will be 12 years. There is nothing about it that feels like it’s too soon. But even so, this is morbid, but it reminded me of having to put a dog to sleep,” he said.
“Not that the show is sick. You know you are doing the right thing, but it is still very, very painful. Because it is a death, there’s no way around it. It’s not just another job ending, it’s a whole way of life ending for all of us.”
Season 12 of The Big Bang Theory will wrap up in May next year.
