John Simm has been cast in the highly-anticipated Game of Thrones prequel.

The Life of Mars star will be involved with the prequel, which began filming in February. The British actor is best known for his rendition of The Master in the David Tennant era of Doctor Who.

Simm made the announcement during a talk with Chris Evans on Virgin Radio Breakfast Show. He confirmed that the pilot episode had already been shot.

Evans asked Simm if he had to have a test on his Westeros knowledge before filming began. Simm replied: “No, they didn’t give me a quiz, but I did have to download every single episode and watch it all in about a month.”

Of course, Simm didn’t give anything away beyond the fact of his appearance in the pilot. The Game of Thrones team are notorious for keeping things on the down-low and Simm’s silence is contracted. What he did say, however, is that the show will be set one thousand years before the events of “A Song of Ice and Fire,” the series of books Game of Thrones is based on.

Simm will be joining Naomi Watts, Josh Whitehouse, Naomi Ackie, Denise Gough, Jamie Campbell Bower, and many more in the fantasy epic.

The prequel is slated for a 2020 release.
