John Grisham’s hit novel The Rainmaker is getting its TV adaptation, and this project just cast one of the most important roles. Mad Men star John Slattery joined USA Network’s legal drama as a courtroom legend going against a young lawyer working on his first major case.
The Rainmaker will center on Rudy Baylor, a young attorney fresh out of law school who must go head-to-head with courtroom lion Leo Drummond, as well as his law school girlfriend. Once they start digging into their new case, Rudy, his boss, and her disheveled paralegal uncover two connected conspiracies surrounding the mysterious death of their client’s son.
Slattery’s character Leo F. Drummond has been described as “a legendary lion of the courtroom and senior partner at Tinley Britt, the powerful firm that Rudy Baylor is up against.”
The Rainmaker is based on John Grisham’s novel of the same name, and it’s previously been adapted into the 1997 film, directed by Francis Ford Coppola. This new version hails from writer and executive producer Michael Seitzman.
John Slattery is best known as the four-time Emmy-nominated star of AMC’s cult drama Mad Men. His major TV credits also include roles in The Good Fight, Mrs. America, and Veep.
