Amazon Prime Video is plotting Young Sherlock, which will chronicle Sherlock Holmes’ early years, and they found a perfect duo to play his parents. Joseph Fiennes and Natascha McElhone are joining Hero Fiennes Tiffin in the Guy Ritchie-directed series.

This series draws inspiration from Andy Lane’s Young Sherlock Holmes books, and it sees him getting caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University which threatens his freedom. Disgraced, raw, unfiltered, and unformed, he must dive into his first case and unravel a globe-trotting conspiracy that will change his life forever.

Joseph Fiennes joins the cast as Silas Holmes, Sherlock’s father, described as a scientist, explorer, and self-made businessman. This series will be quite a family affair for The Handmaid’s Tale actor, who also happens to be the uncle of Hero Fiennes Tiffin.

As for Natascha McElhone, the star of Californication, Designated Survivor, and Halo is joining the cast as Sherlock’s devoted mother, artist, and matriarch of the Holmes clan, Cordelia Holmes.

Matthew Parkhill will serve as the showrunner of Young Sherlock, while Guy Ritchie will be directing. They’re both coming on board as executive producers alongside Simon Kelton, Ivan Atkinson, Simon Maxwell, Dhana Gilbert, Colin Wilson, and Marc Resteghini.
