Season 3 of The Bear featured many A-list cameos, and Josh Hartnett is one of the major stars who agreed to come on board. He opened up about his surprise appearance in a recent interview and explained how his unexpected cameo in the hit FX dramedy came together.

Hartnett briefly popped up in Episode 4 “Violet” as Frank, the new fiancé of Richie’s ex-wife Tiffany. He shared a brief, but impactful scene with Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Richie, which made him wonder where he stands in his daughter’s life now that Tiff is building a new life with Frank.

Josh Hartnett and The Bear creator Christopher Storer go a long way back, and he mentioned wanting to make a show about chefs to Hartnett many years ago. He was delighted to see this series blow up and called up Storer to congratulate him on his success, and his cameo came together quite organically about a year later.

“I said yes right away, before I even read the script because I wanted to work with him. Our business can be cruel at times, and sometimes you get really lucky and meet people you really admire. Chris and I always got along, so I was just delighted that he asked,” Hartnett told The Hollywood Reporter.

The third season of The Bear premiered on June 26, and all ten episodes are now streaming on Hulu.
