After starring in the Apple TV+ series Black Bird, Taron Egerton is gearing up for another collaboration with the streamer, and he’ll be in pretty good company. Jurnee Smollett landed a lead role opposite Egerton in the Apple TV+ drama series Firebug.

Firebug is inspired by the life story of the notorious California arsonist John Leonard Orr. It’s based on truth. media’s podcast of the same name which chronicled Orr’s transformation from a fire captain and arson investigator at the Glendale Fire Department in Southern California to a serial arsonist and mass murderer.

This series will see a troubled detective and an enigmatic arson investigator pursuing the trail of two serial arsonists. Egerton will play the arson investigator, while Smollett will join him as a rising star detective Michelle.

Firebug was created, written, and executive produced by Dennis Lehane, the mastermind behind Egerton’s previous true crime Apple TV+ series Black Bird, which earned him his first Emmy nomination.

This series will mark Smollett’s first major TV role since her Emmy-nominated turn in the acclaimed HBO horror drama Lovecraft Country. She has a pretty impressive track record as a TV actress, and her credits include such hit shows as Friday Night Lights, The Defenders, True Blood, and Underground.
