Medical procedural dramas are never going out of style, and it was just a matter of time before Netflix jumped on the bandwagon. The streaming giant tapped Zoe Robyn to develop their very first medical drama Pulse, with Justina Machado in one of the key roles.

Pulse will take us to Miami’s busiest Level 1 Trauma Center, where its staff tries to navigate medical emergencies every day. This series will center on Dani Simms, a young ER who finds herself unexpectedly promoted to Chief Resident while trying to navigate the fallout of her messy relationship.

Justina Machado is the first star to be cast as the series regular in Pulse, in the role of a brilliant and politically-savvy doctor Natalie Cruz. She previously collaborated with Netflix on the hit sitcom One Day at a Time, in addition to playing key roles in Six Feet Under, Missing, Jane the Virgin, and Queen of the South.

Pulse hails from first-time creator Zoe Robyn (The Equalizer), who’s also coming on board as showrunner and executive producer alongside Carlton Cuse (Locke and Key). Kate Dennis (The Handmaid’s Tale) will direct the first two episodes, and she’ll join the EP team alongside Robyn, Cuse, Bradley Gardner, Emma Forman, and Michael Klick.
