Night Court is returning for its second season this winter, but it will be missing one major player once it comes back. Kapil Talwalkar, who played court clerk Neil in Season 1, decided to exit the revival of the beloved 80s sitcom ahead of Season 2.

According to Deadline’s recent report, Talwalkar exited the series after the masterminds behind it decided to take the show in a new creative direction. Night Court will reportedly be more in the tradition of the original series, which showcased different personalities, characters, and perspectives, once it comes back for Season 2.

NBC’s revival of the beloved 80s sitcom is led by The Big Bang Theory star Melissa Rauch in the role of Abby Stone, the daughter of the late Harry Stone. She moves to New York to follow in her father’s footsteps and become the judge on the night shift at the Manhattan Criminal Court.

In addition to Rauch, the series also stars India de Beaufort, Lacretta, John Larroquette, Pete Holmes, and Gary Anthony Williams. Its second season kicked off with the holiday special “A Night Court Before Christmas”, while the regular episodes will start airing weekly on January 2, 2024, on NBC before heading to Peacock.
