Kate Hudson recently made a transition to TV with a supporting role in the Apple TV+ drama series Truth Be Told – and that was just the beginning! The Oscar-nominated actress set her sights on the lead role in Mindy Kaling’s upcoming Netflix series, set in the world of basketball.

The untitled comedy series will center on Isla Gordon (Hudson), who’s appointed as president of the storied professional basketball franchise Los Angeles Waves after her brother is forced to resign in the face of a very public scandal.

“Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job, especially in the unpredictable, male-dominated world of sports,” reads Netflix’s official logline.

This project was originally sold to Netflix in 2021, with Elaine Ko (Modern Family) expected to serve as writer/showrunner, but it experienced a major creative overhaul. Mindy Kaling is now coming on board as a writer alongside Ike Barinholtz and David Stassen, with Stassen serving as showrunner.

Hudson previously collaborated with Netflix on Rian Johnson’s star-studded film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. On the TV side, she most recently appeared in the second season of the Apple TV+ drama series Truth Be Told alongside Octavia Spencer.
