After a lot of speculations about the potential casting of Dr. Kureha in One Piece, we finally know who’ll play this iconic character. The Golden Globe-winning actress Katey Sagal joined the second season of Netflix’s manga adaptation, along with Mark Harelik as Dr. Hiriluk.
Katey Sagal will star in Season 2 as Dr. Kureha, a doctor on Drum Island whose a major ally of the Straw Hat Pirates. She became a household name while playing one of the lead roles in Married… with Children, and later went on to win a Golden Globe for her performance in Sons of Anarchy.
Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis emerged as a popular fan-casting for this role before Sagal came on board. She even expressed interest in joining the show on social media, but her schedule came in the way.
“She loves the show. She has too many films and TV shows that she’s going into production on so our production dates aren’t going to work. She definitely wanted to do it but she’s got deals in first position, and it just became complicated,” executive producer Becky Clements told Deadline last month.
Mark Harelik has also joined the cast alongside Sagal as Dr. Hiriluk, a thief-turned-Drum Island doctor. His recent TV credits include roles in Presumed Innocent, The Morning Show, The Rookie, and Preacher.
