The Bosch franchise is getting another spin-off, and Amazon Prime Video picked the perfect person to lead it. Maggie Q will headline the upcoming spin-off series about the skilled detective Renée Ballard, working at the LAPD’s Cold Case Division.

This series will see Renée Ballard trying to set up the LAPD’s new cold-case unit while trying to deal with a lack of funding and an all-volunteer staff, handling the largest caseload in the city.

Despite all the obstacles on her path, Ballard tries to approach these cases with empathy and determination, but she’s forced to lean on the assistance of her retired ally, Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver), after uncovering a larger conspiracy during her investigations.

Renée Ballard hasn’t appeared in the original Bosch series, but her character was featured in six of Michael Connelly’s novels, starting with The Late Show in 2017.  Connelly will serve as one of the executive producers alongside Michael Alaimo, Kendall Sherwood, and Trish Hofmann.

Maggie Q is no stranger to carrying a major TV show on her shoulder. She previously played the titular heroine in The CW series Nikita and went on to star in Stalker and Designated Survivor. She most recently appeared in the Fox comedy series Pivoting and movies Fear the Night and The Family Plan.
