E. Lockhart’s hit novel We Were Liars is finally getting its TV adaptation, and we finally know who’ll star in this project. Mamie Gummer, Caitlin FitzGerald, and Candice King will lead Amazon Prime Video’s adaptation of the beloved young adult book.

We Were Liars has been described as “a tragic love story and an amnesia thriller set on a privately owned island off the coast of Massachusetts.” It hails from writers Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie, who are also coming on board as executive producers alongside Lockhart. This marks Plec and MacKenzie’s third collaboration, following The CW shows The Originals and Roswell, New Mexico.

Gummer (True Detective), FitzGerald (Succession), and Candice King (The Vampire Diaries) will lead the series as three Sinclair sisters, whose wealthy, seemingly perfect family spends every summer on their private island.

Gummer will play the eldest sister Carrie Sinclair, whose rebellious days are long behind her, and her main priority is to be a stable force in her sons’ lives. FitzGerald will star as cool and polished Penny Sinclair, whose sense of self-worth is built on her family’s wealth and power. King will play the youngest sister Bess Sinclair, whose perfect image as a philanthropist and a mother of three is dangerously close to shattering.
