Mare of Easttown was a slam dunk for HBO, and they’re thinking of bringing it back for another ride. HBO bosses have been discussing a potential return of this crime drama led by Kate Winslet, which premiered to critical acclaim in 2021 and won several Emmy Awards.

Mare of Easttown was originally conceived as a mini-series about a detective from a small Pennsylvania town, who’s investigating a local murder while trying to keep her life from falling apart. It received 16 Emmy nominations and went on to win four, including acting accolades for its stars Kate Winslet, Julianne Nicholson, and Evan Peters.

HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi recently revealed they started discussing its potential return for Season 2 after the Emmys, but they felt it was too soon to bring it back.

“While there’s nothing in the works, we are having early discussions… We might be willing to figure out with Mare, years later, picking her up — not on the heels of where she ended, but there have been years for the character that have passed. Who is she now?” Orsi told Variety.

Winslet previously said she’s open to reprising her role, while HBO’s CEO Casey Bloys revealed that she’s discussing a potential return with Brad Ingelsby, who’s trying to figure out if there’s another story worth telling.
