Holt McCallany is getting ready to lead the Netflix drama The Waterfront, and he’ll be in pretty good company. Maria Bello will play his wife in Kevin Williamson’s upcoming eight-episode series.

According to its official logline, The Waterfront “dives into the flawed Buckley family as their attempts to retain control of their crumbling North Carolina fishing empire drive them to increasingly dangerous means to keep themselves afloat.”

Bello joined the cast as Mae Buckley, described as a complex woman who’s been running the fishery in very questionable ways with her sons in a desperate attempt to save the family from ruin after her husband Harlan took a step back from the business.

The Waterfront was created for Netflix by the Scream franchise screenwriter Kevin Williamson, who’ll executive produce this project with Ben Fast under their Outerbanks Entertainment banner. Netflix has green-lit this series back in May, and they’ve given it an eight-episode order.

Maria Bello is best known as the star of acclaimed films A History of Violence, Thank You for Smoking, Prisoners, and Coyote Ugly. She recently received her first Primetime Emmy nomination for the supporting role in Beef, which also won her a Critics’ Choice Award for the best supporting actress in a limited series.
