Masters of the Air is one of Apple TV’s most ambitious shows to date, and all the hard work is certainly paying off. According to the streamer, this war drama attracted more viewers during its opening weekend than any other Apple TV+ series in its first season.

Masters of the Air is based on Donald L. Miller’s book of the same name, and it “follows the men of the 100th Bomb Group, as they conduct perilous bombing raids over Nazi Germany and grapple with the frigid conditions, lack of oxygen, and sheer terror of combat”, according to the streamer’s official logline.

Apple TV+ didn’t share the exact viewership numbers that Masters of the Air attracted following its premiere on January 26, but it apparently launched above their most popular titles, such as The Morning Show and Severance. The streamer also reported that the viewership across all Apple TV+ platforms climbed by 65% worldwide in the week following its launch.

The success of Masters of the Air was boosted by its star-studded cast, which includes the likes of Austin Butler, Callum Turner, Anthony Boyle, Nate Mann, Rafferty Law, Barry Keoghan, Josiah Cross, Branden Cook, and Ncuti Gatwa.

Masters of the Air was conceived as a companion to Band of Brothers (2001) and The Pacific (2010), all executive produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. This series is still debuting new episodes on Apple TV+, and its finale will premiere on March 15.
