Max significantly trimmed its comedy lineup in recent months, and they just axed another acclaimed series. Hip-hop comedy Rap Sh!t, created by HBO’s long-time collaborator Issa Rae, won’t return for its third season.

Rap Sh!t chronicled the journey of two estranged high school friends Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion), who found their way back to each other and decided to form their own rap group. Over the course of two seasons, we’ve watched them doing their best to make it in the competitive world of hip-hop while trying to stay true to themselves.

Rap Sh!t was created for Max by Issa Rae, marking her first project following the end of the acclaimed HBO comedy Insecure. In addition to Osman and KaMillion, it also starred Jonica Booth, RJ Cyler, and Daniel Augustin in supporting roles.

A Max spokesperson confirmed the show’s cancelation and thanked its creator Issa Rae and showrunner Syreeta Singleton for telling this story.

“We are extremely grateful to Issa Rae for creating Rap Sh!t, a one-of-a-kind comedy with compelling social commentary that reached viewers in a way only Issa’s talents can accomplish… We’ll never get ‘Seduce and Scheme’ out of our heads, and we wouldn’t have it any other way,” reads Max’s statement.
