We’ve seen Michelle Yeoh star in several high-profile series in recent years, and she’s gearing up for another one. The Oscar-winning actress landed one of the lead roles in Amazon Prime Video’s limited series Blade Runner 2099.

Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but we know this series will draw inspiration from Philip K. Dick’s book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? His seminal novel served as the source material for the sci-fi classic Blade Runner, which later inspired the sequel Blade Runner 2049, starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford.

The latest expansion of the Blade Runner universe serves as the follow-up of this acclaimed sequel, and it was created for Amazon by Silka Luisa. She’ll serve as its showrunner and executive producer alongside Jonathan van Tulleken, who’s directing the first two episodes. Ridley Scott, the director of the original Blade Runner, will also serve as one of the EPs.

Yeoh has been looking for her next big role ever since winning the Oscar for Everything Everywhere All at Once, but most of her recent projects were short-lived. American Born Chinese and The Brothers Sun were both canceled after a single season, and she’ll next lead Star Trek: Section 31, in addition to starring in Wicked and Avatar 3.
