It’s been three decades since Molly Shannon and Steve Koren met on the set of Saturday Night Live, and their next collaboration is on the way. The Emmy-nominated actress will lead Koren’s untitled HBO comedy series about a woman addicted to celebrity gossip.

Shannon will play a woman who gets so obsessed with celebrity gossip that her friends and family decide to intervene. She agrees to get help at a fancy celebrity rehab in Malibu, where she develops a strong connection with her favorite young starlet, and must make a choice between joining her in Hollywood or going back home and confronting her demons.

This series hails from Steve Koren, who met Molly Shannon during her time on Saturday Night Live. They worked on many sketches by each other’s side, including the ones involving her iconic character Mary Katherine Gallagher, which inspired a spin-off film Superstar, written by Koren.

They’ll both executive produce this upcoming HBO series, alongside Shannon’s longtime manager Steven Levy. Koren previously wrote films starring several other SNL alums, including Adam Sandler’s Click and Eddie Murphy’s A Thousand Words.

Shannon is fresh off starring in the Showtime comedy I Love That For You, and she recently landed a supporting role on the next season of Only Murders in the Building.
