After a lot of anticipation, the Money Heist spin-off Berlin arrived on Netflix in late December—and it lived up to the hype. Berlin was the most-watched series on Netflix during the most recent tracking week, claiming the No. 1 spot on the non-English Top 10 list.
This spin-off is set years before the events of Money Heist, and it puts Pedro Alonso’s character Andrés de Fonollosa aka Berlin front and center. It reunites us with Berlin during his glory days when his masterful gang gathered in Paris for one of his greatest plans ever: to steal 44 million euros in jewels in one night.
In addition to Alonso in the lead role, this Money Heist prequel also stars Samantha Siqueiros as Camille, Tristán Ulloa as Damián, Michelle Jenner as Keila, Begoña Vargas as Cameron, Julio Peña Fernández as Roi, Joel Sánchez as Bruce, plus Itziar Ituño returning as Raquel Murillo.
After scoring 11.3 million views following its premiere on December 29, Berlin became the top TV program this week on Netflix, beating all the English titles along the way. The Spanish heist series easily defeated the comedy special Ricky Gervais: Armageddon (8 million views), former chart-topper My Life with the Walter Boys (5.4 million views), and the final season of The Crown (3.6 million views).
