Morena Baccarin will appear on an upcoming episode of the CBS series Fire Country, and it turns out this won’t be just a one-time cameo. Baccarin’s guest appearance could branch out into a whole new spin-off series, with the Deadpool star in the lead role.

Fire Country centers on Bode Donovan (Max Thieriot), a young convict with a troubled past trying to turn his life around and shorten his sentence by taking part in a prison release firefighting program in his hometown in Northern California.

Baccarin will join Thieriot in the upcoming second season in the role of Mickey, a sheriff’s deputy who’s fiercely protective of her hometown of Edgewater after protecting it for 15 years. Her episode wasn’t conceived as a backdoor pilot, and the reception will determine if CBS decides to move forward with the potential spin-off series.

Seeing CBS ponder a potential Fire Country doesn’t come as a huge shocker, since CBS president and CEO George Cheeks singled it out as one of the franchises they’d like to expand.

“[Fire Country] completely lends itself to building out a whole new universe… It became very clear that not only was the show special, it really felt like this could be a great example of us building together a franchise from scratch,” Cheeks previously told Deadline.

The second season of Fire Country will return to CBS on February 16, and the episode count is yet to be determined.
