Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes novels inspired more amazing TV shows than we can count, and another one is on the way. Morris Chestnut will play the titular role in CBS’s upcoming drama Watson, which centers on Sherlock Holmes’ sidekick Dr. Watson.

Created by Elementary’s Craig Sweeny, this series will be set years after the death of Dr. Watson’s friend and partner Sherlock Holmes at the hands of Moriarty. It will see the titular hero turn his attention from solving crimes to solving medical mysteries, after resuming his career as the head of a clinic dedicated to treating rare disorders.

Watson already received a straight-to-series order and it’s expected to premiere during the 2024-25 broadcast season. Morris Chestnut should feel right at home on the set of this series after starring in several medical dramas, including  Fox’s The Resident and Showtime’s Nurse Jackie.

Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, promised that Craig Sweeny’s bold new vision for the complex Dr. Watson will deftly interweave rich character storytelling with edge-of-your-seat medical mysteries

“We are thrilled to feature such a beloved character from the world of Sherlock Holmes at the center of this series and have it brought to life by Morris Chestnut in a fresh and unexpected take on the immortal doctor,” said Reisenbach in a statement.
